Faculty / Staff Wireless Windows 7 Setup

Wireless access is available throughout campus. A wireless network card that supports WPA2 Enterpirse is required in order to use the Faculty/Staff Wireless network.

Wireless Setup for Windows 7

Configuration:

• Select Wireless Icon from the systems tray in the bottom right corner of the windows desktop
  
    
• Select Open Network and Sharing Center

• Select Network and Sharing Center from the button bar at the top of the window
• Select Manage wireless networks from the left menu
  
  
• Click the Add button
  
  
• Click Manually create a network profile
  
  
• Input the following settings:
  Network name: FSWPA2 (in all caps)
  Security type: WPA2 Enterprise
  Encryption type: AES
  
• Select the check box for Start this connection automatically
• Select the check box for Connect even if the network is not broadcasting
• Click the Next button
  
  
  

• Click Change connection settings
  
  
• Select the Connection tab
• Remove check for Connect automatically when this network is in range
• Remove check for Connect even if the network is not broadcasting
• Select the Security tab
  
   

• Select authentication method: Protected EAP (PEAP)
• Remove check for Cache user information for subsequent connections to this network
• Click the Settings button
  
   

• At the top of the Protected EAP Properties window: Remove check for Validate server certificate
• At the bottom of the window: Ensure that Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) is selected
• At the bottom of the window: Select check box for Enable Fast Reconnect
• Click the Configure button
  
  

• Select the check box for Automatically use my Windows logon name…
• Click the OK button
  
   
• Click OK to close the Protected EAP Properties window
• Click OK again to close the Wireless Network Properties window
• Click the Close button

Windows 7 Wireless Advanced Setup

Advanced Setup

This tutorial will walk you through every step of connecting to RIT's WPA2 Enterprise network on Windows 7.

1) First, get into the Network and Sharing Center. You can get here from the Control Panel, or by right-clicking the connection icon in your System Tray (by the clock, on the right hand side by default). Once you get into the Network and Sharing Center, click on "Manage Wireless Networks"

2) If you have a network named "ritwpa2" in the list of networks, click on it and choose "Remove" from the menu above the list. You should also remove the "rit" and "ritwpa" networks if they are listed.

3) Now, click on "Add" from the menu above the list.

4) Choose "Manually create a network profile".

5) Enter "ritwpa2" for the network name, and choose "WPA2 - Enterprise" for the security type. Leave everything else alone. Click the "Next" button on the bottom.

6) Click on "Change connection settings".

7) In the window that comes up, click on the "Security" tab.

8) Click on the "Settings" button near the middle of the window, on the right hand side.

9) Check the box for "Connect to these servers:" and input "radius.rit.edu" in the text box below. Check the box below that for "Entrust.net Secure Server Certificate Authority", then click on the "Configure..." button below.

10) In the window that pops up, uncheck the box, then click "OK".

11) Click "OK" on the Protected EAP Properties window.

12) Click on "Advanced Settings" at the bottom of the ritwpa2 Wireless Network Properties window.

13) Check the box for "Specify authentication mode:", then choose "User authentication" from the drop-down box, and click "Save Credentials" next to it.

14) Enter your username and password into the window that pops up, then click "OK".

NOTE: When your RIT Password expires, you may have to remove the wireless profile, re-add, and re-enter your RIT username and updated password.

15) Click "OK" on the Advanced Settings window.

16) Click on "OK" at the bottom of the ritwpa2 Wireless Network Properties window.

17) Click on "Close" at the bottom of the ritwpa2 Wireless Network Properties window.

Locate the Windows Menu in the bottom left corner of the task bar.

1. Select Control Panel from the Menu.

2. Click the Network icon to proceed.

3. From this screen, a new wireless connection can be setup by clicking Set up a new connection or network.

4. Select Connect to the Internet and click Next to setup a wireless connection.

5. Select Wireless.

If you already have a wireless adapter or network card installed, you will be presented with a list of available networks to connect. This list appears in the bottom right corner of your desktop, just above the system clock.

6. Select the network to which you wish to connect. If prompted, you may need to enter a network Security Key.
